Four youths nabbed for 12 cases of computer thefts

MYSORE: City police have solved 12 cases of computer thefts reported in two city police station limits by arresting four youths. Police have
Police said the accused Sharanabasappa (24) and Shivaraj (20), natives of Gulbarga, Rajesh (24) and Mahadeva (30) of Mysore were caught in an act recently. They were nabbed when they were conspiring to commit an offence at an industrial area on August 17. During questioning, the accused admitted to their crimes. Based on the information
provided by them, police recovered computers from the purchasers.
With this, 10 cases reported in Vijayanagar and two cases in Jayalakshmipuram police limits have been solved within a short period. The accused told the police that as they were getting a good sum for each computer sold in the black market, they used to steal only laptops/desktops from industries and commercial establishments in parts of Mysore. They were operating in Hebbal, Hootagalli and Belavadi industrial areas, Jayalakhsmipuram and Hinkal since three months, police added.
Police said the accused in all the cases gained entry through windows by opening them with steel rods. They used to decamp with electronic gadgets including mobile handsets and sell them in the black market. A dealer, who had purchased computers from them, has also been detained. Police are also planning to grill some of buyers of the stolen goods. A senior officer said receiving stolen property is also a crime and to contain such criminal activities they are planning to punish some of purchasers too.
Venkatesh M N of a private company from where the accused had taken away computers worth Rs 3.5 lakh, said police have acted swiftly within three months after the theft took place.
On the occasion, police commissioner Sunil Agarwal lauded the efforts of the investigation team and announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the staff. DCP Shivalingappa, ACP A K Suresh and Vijayanagar inspector Arun Nagegowda were present.
