METHUEN — Michelle DeJesus told police she was at her Lorenzo Circle home watching television Monday afternoon when the doorbell rang.
She told Officer Frank Lascola she looked out the front window and saw a young woman walk across her front lawn and get into a waiting cranberry-colored Honda parked on the street in front of her house.
The car left, and about 20 minutes later, DeJesus heard the front door slam shut.
She assumed it was her husband but hearing the door slam as loud as it did she got up and checked.
She found nobody in the house but did see the same young woman running across her front lawn carrying a laptop computer, police said.
DeJesus told Lascola she immediately went to the basement to check on the laptop computer which had been on a desk there, and found it was missing.
She then noticed a basement window was fully opened and the screen pulled out of its track.
She told Lascola the woman appeared to be a light-skinned woman, about 25 years old with brown hair worn in a ponytail, about 5 feet 5 inches tall weighing 120 pounds with a thin build, wearing a white miniskirt and a light colored midriff top.
She told police the car was in good condition and described the driver as a light-skinned man.
The Toshiba laptop computer was valued at $575 and had just been purchased about two weeks ago, police said.
The break was reported at 2:35 p.m., police said.
The case was forwarded to the detective division, police said.
