State police say Web video helped catch burglars at Daniel Boone High School
Reading Eagle
Surveillance video posted on the Daniel Boone School District Web site figured in the arrest of two 17-year-old boys for a burglary at the high school early Wednesday, authorities reported.
State police in Reading say the suspects were identified by someone who saw the video.
The boys were arrested and charged Wednesday in Berks County Juvenile Court. Police withheld their names.
They are charged with breaking into the school and stealing laptop computers valued at about $4,900.
According to police:
About two months ago, one of the suspects stole a key that had been left in a door at the high school annex. The pair used the key to enter the high school about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday.
Once inside, the boys entered the maintenance area, proceeded to the library and took four laptops.
The stolen keys and three of the laptops have been recovered.
The high school also was the scene of three earlier break-ins.
In the most recent and worst, vandals did about $135,000 damage. They damaged surveillance cameras, stole computers worth $12,000 and broke a water pipe that flooded part of the school and caused $121,000 damage.
Police later charged five people in the crime. They, too, had a key to the building, police said.
The status of those cases was unclear.
