Computers stolen during burglary
By T&D Staff Saturday, August 08, 2009
Employees of the Orangeburg Community Development Corp. on Goff Avenue reported several computers stolen during a burglary early Thursday.
Employees said at around 6 a.m., they discovered someone forced his way into the facility and took three computers worth about $5,000.
A door in the room the person broke into leads to the rest of the facility. However, that door was bolted from the inside, preventing the thieves from gaining access to the main building.
In an unrelated report, a Hoffman Road woman notified deputies Thursday after realizing someone destroyed her mailbox. The 70-year-old woman said her mailbox had been knocked from its stand and ruined.
Deputies found tire tracks that indicated a vehicle left the road and struck the mailbox.
While the mailbox was destroyed, the vehicle apparently didn’t fare much better. Several pieces of a burgundy vehicle were also found where the mailbox once stood.
The mailbox was positioned on a heavy stone and rock mount. Damage to the mailbox is estimated at $500.
Deputies checked the nearby roads for a car but did not find one.
