Galvez Middle vandalized, computers stolen
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a theft and vandalism incident at Galvez Middle School, Ascension Parish Schools spokesperson Johnnie Balfantz said.
One or more people broke into one of the school buildings on the campus at some point over the weekend, between Friday’s school closing and Monday’s reopening, he said.
The person or persons apparently entered through a classroom window, Balfantz said.
Five classrooms were vandalized, he said.
Fire extinguishers were sprayed, graffiti was written on dry-erase boards and two computers were stolen, according to Balfantz.
A swastika and the words “white power” and “penis” were found in permanent marker on one of the boards, he said.
Four of the five classes had to be moved Monday to other areas in order to conduct normal school activities until the rooms could be investigated and cleaned, Balfantz said.
The classes were back in their normal classrooms on Tuesday, he added.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636 or Crimestoppers at 225-344-7867.
