URBANA — An Urbana man with several prior convictions has been charged in Champaign County with three additional burglaries and a theft.
Daniel Day, 26, who listed an address in the 1600 block of Briarcliff Drive, had been charged earlier this month with a theft stemming from his arrest in Champaign. Judge John Kennedy advised him that if convicted of any of the more recent cases, he would have to serve his sentences after any he might receive if convicted of the theft since he was out on bond for the theft.
The charges filed Thursday include:
— Burglary May 17 to Simplified Computers, 901 S. Neil St., C; Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Larson said three laptop computers worth $3,600 were stolen in a break-in in which a door was broken open with a landscaping stone.
— Burglary Aug. 18 to Mennenga Construction, 1310 Triumph Drive, U; Larson said a warehouse was forced open and more than $1,000 worth of tools stolen.
— Theft Aug. 27 to Radio Shack, 114 N. Vine St., U; electronics were shoplifted while Day and two other men were in the store, Larson said.
— Burglary Sept. 2, at the Wal-Mart, 2610 N. Prospect Ave., C; Larson said Day was captured on video forcing open a locked case and removing three computers. Two were found stashed in other parts of the store. Day allegedly put the third under his clothing and walked out of the store to a waiting car. It was also captured on video.
Larson said Day had prior convictions for theft, domestic battery, aggravated battery, robbery, driving under suspension and possession of firearm without a firearm owner’s identification card.
Kennedy set Day’s bond in all four cases at $80,000 and ordered him to be back in court Oct. 13
