A CONTRACT worker who stole thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment from a Hampshire air traffic control centre has been jailed.
Portsmouth Crown Court heard Andrew Woffindin, 43, risked national security by stealing up to £58,000 worth of laptops and mobile phones from National Air Traffic Services (NATS) at Swanwick before selling them on the internet.
Woffindin pleaded guilty to six counts of theft by an employee, which amounted to six laptops and ten phones, and asked for a further 119 counts to be taken into consideration.
He had been working as an IT contractor for Serco Group Plc at NATS when he committed the offences.
Judge Peter Henry said the seriousness of the case and the fact he had risked national security meant a custodial sentence was the only option.
Woffindin, of Angus Close, Fareham, was sentenced to 15 months in jail.
