ORANGE PARK – Thieves removed an air conditioning unit to get into an Orange Park YMCA and steal valuables, including two footballs autographed by Jacksonville Jaguars player Rashid Mathis.

The break-in at the Dye-Clay YMCA, 3322 Moody Ave., cost nearly $4,000 because the thieves also stole two laptop computers, damaged several desks and cabinets and stole a small amount of cash, according to a Clay County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Workers discovered the missing items and several bags dumped out when they arrived for work early Friday, Oct. 2. The building was last secured shortly before midnight Thursday, Oct. 2, the report says.

The thieves entered by pushing out an AC unit in a window leading to a storage closet.
