Master Keys To Vancouver Schools Stolen
2 Thefts Reported So Far, Deputies Say

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Two thefts were reported at Vancouver schools after a set of master keys that belong to a school district employee was stolen over the weekend, deputies said.A spokesman with the Vancouver School District said thieves broke into an employee's car and walked away with a ring filled with master keys to various schools in the area.At Jason Lee Middle School, someone entered the school and took a computer and a personal stereo.At Gaiser Middle School, walkie-talkies and a base charger were stolen.

School officials have since asked staff to stuff the locks at their schools so the master keys won't work.Deputies launched an investigation after the thefts and reviewed security video Wednesday. They said the video showed a man with a U.S. flag over his face fumbling with the keys at the door. Minutes later, he walked out carrying a computer.Parents of students at Jason Lee Middle School said they're surprised anyone would pick a school as a target."There's definitely a security issue if somebody has the master key," said parent Kelly Casto. "It's not as large as some of the other schools so everybody knows everybody.
