School computers stolen
Laptops, camera and projector taken, Oakcrest school official says
Escambia County investigators have little information on who broke into Oakcrest Elementary School and took several computers and other pieces of equipment.
Five Apple laptops, a digital camera and a projector were taken from three portable classrooms on the east side of the school on Hollywood Avenue, off Fairfield Drive.
The burglary was reported at 8:30 a.m. Monday. There were pry marks about 2 inches wide on the classroom doors.
The laptops were used by students, said Elna Francis, the curriculum coordinator at the school.
"The teachers will fill in gaps as best they can," Francis said. "The students are disappointed, especially the two pre-K classrooms, because there were a lot of things they were doing and getting a good bit of information."
It will be some time before the laptops can be replaced, Francis said.
"There are procedures and processes we have to go through," she said. "It's not like if you have your own homeowner's insurance."
The pawn shop investigator at the Sheriff"s Office has been made aware of the theft, Sheriff's Office Sgt. Ted Roy said.
"Hopefully, the stolen property will turn up at a pawn shop," Roy said. "With what little information we have, we are following up the best we can."
