KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A thief stole valuable information from the Kansas City Art Institute and it wasn't a painting or sculpture. The human resources department at KCAI reported a missing computer that officials said contained sensitive information about past and current employees. One art student told KCTV5 that faculty and staff were called in for a meeting about the missing computer."They seemed very concerned," said student Paul Kisling.Social Security numbers, birth dates and addresses that were stored in data processing files were on the computers when they were taken."I don't know,” Kisling said. “There's rumors that someone left the back door open, but that hasn't been confirmed or anything.”The institute sent out letters to all staff warning them to vigorously check their personal information, especially their credit reports.Sgt. Rob Rickett in the Kansas City Police Department fraud crime division said someone getting that kind of information can do some serious damage.
