Electronics stolen in smash-grab break-ins
Tuesday, November 23, 2010
The city's burglary squad is investigating a pair of "smash-and-grab" break-ins that happened early Monday in which bandits made off with thousands of dollars worth of electronics.

In the first, police were called to a T-Mobile store on Fifth Avenue when a burglar alarm sounded about 1:40 a.m. Officers found the front window smashed and a store manager told them that several items were missing from display cases including cell phones worth between $150 and $600 each. Police were still trying to determine how much merchandise was stolen from that store.

About 4:30 a.m., officers arrived at the Apple store on Walnut Street in Shadyside after an alarm sounded there. They, too, found the glass storefront smashed. An unknown number of computers, iPods, iPhones and other items were taken, each worth between $500 and $2,300, police said.

Detectives planned to study surveillance footage from cameras on several businesses on Walnut Street.
Anyone with information on either case should call the burglary squad at 412-323-7155.
