Thieves steal thirty new Canaima mini-computers from primary school
VHeadline News Editor Patrick J. O'Donoghue reports:The Manuel Palacio Fajardo primary school in Ciudad Bolivar received a rude awakening one morning to find all of its new Canaima mini-computers missing ... in the sense of robbed, stolen.
The computers are part of a government educational project aimed at making pupils computer-literate from grade one onwards.
The computers were purchased by the Venezuelan government from a Portuguese company that makes the computers. Software was designed and supplied by Venezuelan educational experts and technicians. It has been confirmed that thieves broke into the school at night and stole 30 computers.
School director, Yarlegni Bacca said thieves also made off with two TV, three printers, two water filters and a DVD.
Suspicion has fallen on the night watchman who did not work the night the school was raided. It should be easy to track the machines since they are highly distinguishable. It is a chance for the community to do some detective work and confront the criminals and their local fences.
