Student computers stolen from Palm Springs elementary school

About 30 student computers were stolen from Cahuilla Elementary School in Palm Springs on Saturday, the Palm Springs Police Department said.

“I had to tell them (the students) this morning,” Principal Denise Ellis said on Monday. “They’re just really disappointed...One of the kids actually said to me, ‘Why would someone steal from kids?’”

The fifth-grade class was part of the school’s 24/7 laptop program, where each student is assigned a computer to use in class and at home.

The thief or thieves cut a hole in the fence around the school and broke into the classroom but did not take anything else from the school, Ellis said.
