Kids who attend a children's community center in Southwest Fresno, won't have their favorite toys to play with Monday. That's because thieves broke into the Sunset Community Center and stole their toys and computers.
Sunset Community Center is a new hangout for kids in Southwest Fresno. Monday young people who come here for enrichment will discover their learning tools and toys are gone.
Brian King is the head of the non-profit organization. "Thieves came in and stole the computers that were donated to us to build a community computer lab."
Thieves removed a door knob to get inside. Then they broke the glass on another door to get what they were after. "Some of the toys that were stolen we were gonna use to raffle off for gifts at our after school program and for our health community programs were donating," Brian King said.
He says they took practically everything including the center's main computer. What they didn't want they dumped on the floor.
Lee Pointer is also a leader of the non-profit. "We have to help the kids. And this center is for the kids and were kind of disappointed someone would have that kind of heart to do something like that. "
The non–profit group opened the child enrichment program just three weeks ago at the city owned building. While the program is off to a rocky start members are confident their mission will succeed
