Computers stolen from yet another local
school
1:49 AM, Jan. 22, 2011 A rash of burglaries targeting computers from local elementary schools continued Friday in Cathedral City.Cathedral City police were called at 8:13 a.m. to Sunny Sands Elementary School at 69-310 McCallum Way about a burglary but also discovered a classroom had been vandalized during the theft.“Sunny Sands School has sustained a substantial financial loss,” Sgt. Corwin de Veas said in a statement. “Numerous students are now without these computers, which have been increasingly difficult to replace during these tumultuous financial times.”Similar thefts have occurred recently around Cathedral City and Palm Springs.On Jan. 11, nine laptops were stolen from Cahuilla Elementary School, 833 E. Mesquite Ave., in Palm Springs.Another 28 computers were taken from there in December.Fourth- and fifth-graders at Cahuilla are assigned laptops, school officials have said.
