Man, 21, charged with retail theft
SCRANTON - A Kingston man was charged with retail theft after trying to steal two laptop computers from a Scranton electronics store, thanks to two off-duty police officers nearby.
Two employees at Best Buy on Viewmont Drive were standing outside when they noticed Peter F. Sanfilippo, 21, running from the store with two laptops in his arms, Scranton police said.
When the employees yelled for him to stop, Mr. Sanfilippo dropped the laptops but continued to run, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
A Scranton police officer and a state trooper, both off duty, were in the parking lot and apprehended Mr. Sanfilippo. Both laptops, which had a total value of about $1,579, were recovered.
