Thieves steal computers from Agoura classrooms

New computers valued at $7,000 were stolen from Sumac Elementary School in Agoura Hills on Jan. 26.
According to Principal Carol Martino, two Apple desktop computers, two laptop computers and a flat-screen monitor were taken from a classroom.
“It could have been much worse,” Martino said. “We’re very pleased it wasn’t more.”
A report was filed with Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, but no suspects have been identified.
A parent at the school who asked that her name be withheld said entry was gained through a classroom window.
Computers also were stolen from Indian Hills High School and Willow Elementary School last year. Jessica Kiernan, Willow principal, said three computers worth $4,000 were stolen from the classrooms.
Over Veterans Day weekend last November, two Apple computers and $ 800 were stolen from an Indian Hills classroom.
“A large percentage of the money had been raised by Indian Hills students to donate to a fund for breast cancer,” said Indian Hills- Agoura High School Principal Larry Misel. “One of the computers has been recovered but none of the money. Additional window protection will be installed shortly. Although I am always concerned, Agoura High School, to this point, has been spared.”
Marino said the students at her school were “visibly upset” by the theft.
“ It is hurtful that people think they can steal from children,” Martino said. “We try to teach kids right from wrong. This was good fodder for a discussion (with students) on this subject.”
