Lincoln County fire station burglarized
Lincoln County authorities are looking for a brazen thief or thieves who broke into a fire station early Sunday -- while firefighters were asleep in the building.
Deputies say a TV sets, computers and other electronic equipment were stolen. The break-in apparently happened about 2:30 a.m. at the East Lincoln Fire Department station near Denver.
The sheriff's office says a firefighter who reported to the station about 7 a.m. Sunday found the front door propped open and a number of items missing. Investigators say firefighters from the station answered a call about 1 a.m. and returned to the station about an hour later. They watched TV for a short time, then went to bed.
A neighbor told investigators he was awakened by his dogs barking about 2:30 a.m. He said he saw a light-colored SUV pulling through his driveway.
The thieves got away with a computer monitor; two computer screens; a satellite TV control box; two flat screen TV's that were taken off a wall' and a cooler full of soft drinks and snacks. Total value of the items was $2,800, the sheriff's office says.
Investigators say they were able to get tire impressions from the SUV that the neighbor saw.
