ADAMS — A town of Henderson man was arrested Tuesday morning by state police on allegations that he was receiving stolen property at his place of employment, Fuccillo Chevrolet, Route 11.
The auto dealership was not involved in the "fence" operation, an investigator said.
Ronald J. Bailey, 38, of 12999 Route 178, was arrested at the dealership, and was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony. He was released without bail following arraignment in town of Pamelia Court and awaits grand jury action.
More arrests are anticipated in the continuing investigation, Investigator Thomas M. Guarasce said.
The arrest followed a sting operation Tuesday morning, during which police allege that Mr. Bailey received purported stolen merchandise at the dealership, including a laptop and desktop computers.
In the presence of state police members, Mr. Bailey accepted and paid for the items, police said.
Tuesday's sting is part of a monthlong investigation about merchandise being stolen in Jefferson County as well as at locations outside the county, police said. Stores that were primary theft targets in the Watertown area were listed as Walmart, Sears and J.C. Penney, police said.
Mr. Guarasce declined to discuss any arrests that may have been made prior to Mr. Bailey's arrest.
It comes only five days after Jason M. Bartholomew, 32, of 608 Davidson St., Watertown, was jailed following his arrest by state police in connection with alleged shoplifting incidents at the same three stores. Those incidents, occurring in September, January and February, involved a comforter and Dyson vacuum cleaners.
Participants in the morning operation included members of the state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, based in Onondaga County, and security personnel from Walmart.
