Heads will roll if there is evidence of an inside job in the burglaries at two offices of the Sol Plaatje municipality in Kimberley over the weekend.
Municipal spokesperson Sello Matsie said the police were still investigating the matter, but warned that if any “internal people were found to be involved in the thefts, we will deal swiftly with the perpetrators”.
Six computers, two microwave ovens and a radio were stolen from the municipality’s Bantu Hall offices in Galeshewe.
The municipal office in Phuthanang was also broken into but nothing was taken. The stolen goods have since been recovered and returned to their owners.
A security officer was found tied up after his colleague alerted the authorities that he was unable to reach his fellow guard over the radio.
Matsie said the municipality was conducting its own investigation into the break-ins and promised everything would be done to prevent a recurrence.
“At this stage the municipality is cooperating with the police to provide the necessary support to conduct a proper investigation into the matter,” he said.
Police spokesperson Capt Tony Modise confirmed that two suspects linked to the break-ins have been arrested. The suspects will shortly appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court.
