Laptops robbed in Matara found in Negombo TUESDAY, 05 APRIL 2011 01:52 By Krishan Jeewaka Jayaruk Laptops worth over a million rupees which were stolen from two computer showrooms in Matara were recovered yesterday from a computer shop in Negombo and two suspects taken into custody. One of the suspects was the owner of the showroom. Information provided by a suspect who had been taken into custody earlier in connection with the incident led to the raid. A police team from Matara Police Headquarters recovered eight laptops during the raid. Police said several more computers stolen by the suspects were yet to be recovered. Inquiries revealed that the suspects had dismantled the computers for disposal. A police official said the suspect advertised in the press and sold the computers and computer  parts at low prices to unsuspecting customers. HQI Matara police Nishantha Herath,  OIC Crime Investigation Unit P S C Sanjeewa, sub-inspector S M Chamara Silva, sergeant 54358 Mahinda Walpola, constables 26178 Sarath Nandana and 70541 A Madusnaka carried out the raid on the instructions of SP Damayanatha Wijeyasri and SSP Sumith Edirisinghe. They are conducting further inquiries to arrest other suspects, if any, involved in the incident.
