Cleaner and driver jailed over computer theft from employer

DUBAI // A cleaner at an IT products company and his accomplice were found guilty of stealing Dh25,000 worth of computers from their employer and were each sentenced yesterday to six months in prison.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance ruled that RK, 21, of India, stole the computers on January 23 and 24 this year.
His accomplice, SM, 32, a driver for the same company, was found in possession of the stolen items, the court said yesterday.
The company, Redington Gulf, an IT products distributor in Jebel Ali, reported the incident after its administrative director found that computers were missing from the company's store.
RS said that after noticing the shortage, he watched the surveillance camera tapes and saw the defendant, RK, taking the computers. He said they were worth Dh25,592.
RS said he confronted RK, who confessed to the crime but did not tell him where he was keeping the computers. During investigations, RK said he gave the computers to his accomplice, who knew that they were stolen from their employer.
SM confessed during investigations to possession charges. Both men will be deported after serving their prison terms.
