Spurt in laptop thefts; 8 in 5 days
CHANDIGARH: In five days, eight laptops were reportedly stolen from different parts of the city. However, cops haven't been able to track a single machine. Two days ago, thieves took away a laptop, internet modem and some artificial jewellery from a Sector-7 house.
Police claimed that at times, thieves targeted specific gadgets. On May 23, robbers stole only a laptop from Surinder Sharma's house in Sector 34 despite the presence of several other valuables. A case was registered in Sector-34 police station.
On the same day, thieves struck at the Sector-20 house of Manoj Kumar, and decamped with two laptops and Rs 30,000. Such thefts have risen over the fortnight and earlier, similar instances were reported in February. While UT cops are still trying to follow a systematic approach, those in Gurgaon have taken assistance of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) to track the stolen gadgets.
