Kara Blames State Officials for Burglary

May 28, 2011 (Nairobi Star/All Africa Global Media via COMTEX) -- Six armed men broke into the Kenya Alliance of Residents Association Offices yesterday morning and stole computers containing crucial data.

A guard at Kara offices located on Jamhuri Crescent, off Ngong Road said the six men cut through the fence before tying him up then proceeded to load all the computers onto a truck.

Kara CEO Stephen Mutoro said the men carried away his personal documents including chequebooks, a laptop, three TV sets and other valuables. "The way the documents are strewn in my office means they were looking for specific documents. We have lost very useful information. The matter has been reported to police whom we request to provide us with more security,"Mutoro said. Mutoro said though it may be too early to speculate, he reads malice in the robbery.

He said as the secretary general of the Consumers Federation of Kenya, he said he cannot help reading malice from government officials keen to gag him and the organisation.

The robbery happened on the week Cofek was finalising plans for a peaceful demonstration against high food prices set to take place on the first week of June. "This also follows an earlier phone threat. My team and I will not be intimidated. We call upon Kenyans to continue supporting us as we push for their rights regardless of such cowardly acts," Mutoro said.
