THEFTS: Western Adelaide Superintendent Howard Davies says a new operation will target computer thefts.
POLICE have made two arrests over a series of computer thefts from western suburbs businesses, including companies at Port Adelaide and Beverley.
The arrests yesterday (Thursday, June 9) came just days after the launch of operation Hard Drive to curb the thefts.
A police spokesman said a tip-off led to the search of a home on Nelson Rd, Valley View, where ``a large amount of computer components’’ allegedly stolen from western businesses were uncovered.
A man, 29, and woman, 24, both of Valley View, were charged with serious criminal trespass, theft, and unlawful possession.
As reported by Messenger News, 12 thefts netting a total of 74 hard drives, 32 monitors and 10 laptops were reported by businesses in Port Adelaide, West Croydon, Devon Park and Beverley from May 20-27.
Front doors or windows were smashed or jemmied in the thefts, which all happened between 2am and 5am.
New Superintendent Howard Davies said under Operation Hard Drive, patrols were concentrating on business districts in affected suburbs in an attempt to curb the problem.
