Bronx's PS 73 burglarized again - students devastated over laptops theft
A cold-hearted thief cleaned out a Bronx elementary school over Memorial Day weekend, making off with roughly 75 new laptops, the auditorium's sound equipment and a new scanner, officials said.
Students waited outside for an hour and half Tuesday morning while police investigated Public School 73's second major theft in a week, Education Department officials said.
"They took something the kids really need," said Stephanie Guzman, 21, a mother of two students.
"It's heartless," she added. "You are stealing from a poor school, from kids."
Last week the Highbridge school reported 27 computers stolen. That theft occurred sometime after the May 23 schoolday ended and before classes began May 24, officials said.
Police said the latest heist happened sometime after 3:15 p.m. Memorial Day and before school started Tuesday morning.
Education Department officials said the bandit broke into classrooms and rifled through the principal's office.
The size of the haul raised speculation at the school of an inside job.

"It had to be somebody who had keys," said Tony Brazovan, 25, who's sister is in third grade. "How do you get so many computers out without anybody seeing you? You are stealing from neighborhood kids who need the computers to learn. It's a real shame."
