UK COMPUTERS STOLEN http://www.publicservice.co.uk/news_story.asp?id=17769

Data breach risk 'extremely low' from stolen Parliament computers
19 October 2011

Security measures and appropriate guidance has minimised the risk to personal information after IT equipment was stolen from the Parliament over the course of the last year, Publicservice.co.uk has learned.

News last week revealed that dozens of computers and numerous mobile devices had been reported stolen from offices across the parliamentary estate between October 2010 and October 2011.

Asked about possible resulting threats to sensitive information a House of Commons spokesman has now told Publicservice.co.uk the risks were "extremely low".

Speaking on behalf of PICT (Parliamentary Information and Communications Technology), the spokesman said advice and guidance had been issued about storing sensitive and personal information on the network and not on mobile devices.

He said there were security measures on and around PICT mobile devices themselves. And he said data loss assessments were carried out as part of the reporting process.

Due to these measures the spokesman said: "The risk of breaches of security and/or data protection arising from the losses of these devices has been assessed as extremely low."
