Thieves steal computers from Norwalk High, again
Jan. 11, 2012 by Matthew Guhit
NORWALK – For the second time in two weeks, thieves stole computers from Norwalk High School.
Dell laptops were stolen Tuesday morning sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. from the engineering room, according to Sgt. Grady Miles of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
“Had there been an alarm, we would’ve arrived to the scene sooner,” Miles said.
The computers were apparently new and are valued at a combined $13,000.
The windows at the engineering room were broken out, deputies said.
A reward of more than $1,000 is being offered through crime reporting website Wetip.com, according to Principal Dina Wilson. Fliers of the reward will be distributed Wednesday morning.
When asked what measures the school was doing to prevent future thefts, Wilson would not divulge details.
“I don’t want to give out any more information because I don’t want to compromise the continued security of the school,” Wilson said.
Over Christmas break, 40 iMac computers were stolen from the school which were worth about $1,200 to $1,500 each. And throughout the year, thieves several times stole copper tubing from the air conditioning units, causing thousands in repairs.
Superintendent Ruth Perez could not immediately be reached for comment.
