ATLANTA - Some local musicians say thieves broke into their home early Friday morning and stole thousands of dollars worth of recording equipment.
Demarreo Bethea says someone broke into his home on Old Coach Road in Stone Mountain and stole all the equipment from his Presidential Recordz SMG recording studio. Bethea said it took him 13 years to build the studio.
Members of the group SMG say they were performing at the club Echelon 3000 when someone broke down the door at the home around 1 a.m. They say the home invaders stole computers, keyboards, microphones and other gear worth more than $100,000.
At the time of the burglary, Bethea's cousin Tamika Rogers was home alone, in bed sleeping.
"I noticed a light turned off and then back on. A man burst into my bedroom room with a gun and told me not to move," said Rogers.
Rogers says that for nearly 20 minutes, three men ransacked the upstairs while holding a gun to her head.
“They told me not to say anything. One guys told, 'Don’t say anything, don't move because I will pull the trigger,'” said Rogers.
Bethea says there were more than just three men in his home. While they watched his cousin, Bethea says other robbers were in his studio moving out the heavy equipment.
Outside of taking all of the recording equipment from the studio, Bethea says the thieves also stole expensive sneakers, jewelry and designer jeans.
“It hurts, it hurts,” said Bethea.
Bethea says fortunately they do have insurance, but said it will take months if not years to recoup what they've lost. He says thankfully their kids were not at home last night and instead staying with grandparents.
DeKalb County police say at this point, they don’t have any suspects but are asking anyone with any information to call.
