KIPP break-in
Thieves stole three desktop Apple computers and 28 laptops, costing a northwest Atlanta school about $43,000.
Atlanta police are searching for the thieves who broke into a public charter school and stole more than $40,000 worth of computers.

Channel 2's Erica Byfield went to KIPP Atlanta Collegiate on Anderson Avenue, where the robbery happened Tuesday morning.

Police believe five people climbed onto the roof, broke a window and crawled inside the building. The school’s principal said the thieves stole three desktop Apple computers and 28 laptops. Damage to the building and the school’s loss is estimated at about $43,000.

“The laptop cart that was sitting here, they obviously jacked open through the locks and broke the locking mechanism here, and we had 28 Macbook Pros, which were all stolen,” Principal Dave Howland told Byfield.

The description of the criminals is very vague: juveniles in dark hoodies.

The same computer lab was broken into several times last school year, but it is unclear if the past break-ins are connected to the latest incident.

Anyone with information can contact Atlanta police at 404-577-8477.
