Computers, cameras stolen from Pasco middle school

WESLEY CHAPEL - Technology was the target when burglars hit Long Middle School over the weekend.

About 20 video cameras, about 20 laptop computers and six desktop computers were stolen from five classrooms in two separate buildings, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office and Pasco school district reported.

The burglary happened sometime between Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, officials said.

Investigators were able to narrow down the time of the burglary because a church group meets at the school Sunday mornings and the school’s plant manager was on the premises until Sunday afternoon, said Linda Cobbe, the school district spokeswoman.

All was well when the plant manager left, she said.

No one has been arrested, but sheriff’s spokeswoman Melanie Snow noted that the sheriff’s office had recent success in making arrests in a string of school burglaries that happened between October and March at Ridgewood High, Calusa Elementary, Chasco Elementary and Chasco Middle.

At this point, there is no indication of a connection between those burglaries and the Long Middle burglary, she said.
