Happy Hills recreation center vandalism
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A week after the Happy Hill community’s pool was found vandalized, officials have discovered new acts vandalism targeting the Sims Recreation Center.
Officials with the City of Winston-Salem’s Recreation Department tell FOX8′s Brent Campbell the vandalism occurred sometime overnight.
The vandal or vandals broke inside the Sims Recreation Center, which is across the street from the community pool that was vandalized last week.  Two windows were broken at the rec center and at least two computers were stolen, officials said.
The pool has been closed since 2011 due to a water leak, but city leaders recently agreed to spend thousands of dollars to repair and reopen the facility.
Workers found many of the renovations destroyed, including new windows that were busted out.
The community has worked to rebuild itself in recent years.  The city, along with $18 million in federal grant money, replaced several dilapidated homes with apartments and a senior citizen complex.  Hundreds of single-family homes were suppose to be built, but only a handful have been constructed due to the economy.
