Laikipia school robbed of Sh900,000 electronics

Armed robbers on Wednesday night broke into a school in Nyahururu, Laikipia county and stole computers and other electronic goods worth Sh900,000. The more than 10 men broke into Thiru Secondary School. They stole Sh23,000 in cash after breaking into the bursar’s office.
Nyahururu district education officer James Odero yesterday said the criminals stormed the school at about midnight. The thugs tied the two watchmen on duty in one of the classrooms before they proceeded with their stealing spree.
Odero said the thugs stole new computers, laptops and projectors from the school's ICT centre. “They were still intact and it seems that the robbers only targeted the new ones,” he said. The computers were delivered to the school two days ago by the Ministry of Education.
Odero said students who reported to the school yesterday morning found the watchmen tied up in the classrooms. He said crime is on the rise in the area as a similar incident occurred at Kinamba a month ago. Odero said investigations have been launched into the robbery.
