WASHINGTON COMPUTERS STOLEN

UW frats, sororities besieged by computer thefts

UW frats, sororities besieged by computer thefts
A University of Washington fraternity and three sororities have been burglarized while residents slept in the past week.
SEATTLE -- It turns out the theft of laptops and makeup from a University of Washington sorority reported Tuesday was just the tip of the iceberg. More than 15 laptops have now been reported stolen from three sororities and a fraternity in the past week, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to police, the burglar or burglars entered the houses through unlocked doors and windows while residents slept between the hours of midnight and 8 a.m. Nov. 1 to Nov. 5.

Detectives say it's possible whoever is responsible for the burglaries scoped the houses out during Halloween parties.

Ten laptops were stolen from a study room at a sorority in the 4700 block of 19th Avenue Northeast, and five more were taken from a sorority in the 4500 block of 18th Avenue Northeast.

Other burglaries occurred at a sorority in the 4500 block of 17th Avenue Northeast and a frat in the 2100 block of Northeast 47th Street.

Police are reminding all U-District residents to make sure their doors and windows are locked.
