MALASYIA COMPUTER THEFT RING BROKENSchool break-in gang crippled, three members under remandPENANG: A gang said to be responsible for 19 school break-ins involving the theft of more than RM2mil worth of computers and projectors was crippled with the arrest and remand of three men in Penang and Perak recently.
The men, aged between 46 and 64, had struck in at least four states including Selangor, Perak and Pahang. Other than computers and projectors, the group's targets were also video compact disc (VCD) players and laptop computers.
A check by the police showed that the group was responsible for the break-in at a school in Sungai Dua on the island where projectors and laptop computers worth about RM175,000 were stolen from its media centre last month.
State deputy CID chief Supt Razali Basri, who confirmed the arrests, said they were in the process of tracking down the buyers of the stolen items, adding that those caught with such goods could be charged with retaining stolen property under Section 411 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, police are looking for a man who raped his 14-year-old niece at a house in Jalan Jelutong on April 14. He had crept into the Form Two schoolgirl's bedroom while her mother was at the market at about 7am that day.
Supt Razali confirmed that a report had been lodged but declined to elaborate. The man has since been identified and police expect to pick him up soon.
