UK COMPUTER THIEVES STEAL 50 COMPUTERS FROM MAIL DELIVERY BUSINESSCumbria Online - The English Lake District and Cumbria's favourite website: "POLICE HUNT £100,000 RADIERS
Published in News & Star on Tuesday, August 23rd 2005

DETECTIVES are hunting a gang of thieves after £100,000 worth of computers were stolen during a raid on a Carlisle mail delivery business.

Raiders broke into the city depot of national firm Business Post on Kingstown Industrial Estate at the weekend.

Police say about 50 computers were included in a haul taken from the depot, on Brunthill Road, at some point between Saturday lunchtime and 4am yesterday.

Details were still unclear this morning about whether the computers were the firm’s own or if some or all of them were included in its deliveries.

The News & Star contacted Business Post but the company declined to comment.

The firm is a branch of one of the largest express delivery companies in the country. It has dozens of depots across the UK.

Detectives from Carlisle CID visited the scene of the break-in yesterday (MON) to gather evidence after being alerted to the raid.

They believe a gang of thieves would be needed to carry out a raid of this scale. A van or truck is likely to have been used to transport the stolen property.

Detective Inspector Mark Backhouse said: “We would like anybody who witnessed anything suspicious to come forward as well as anyone who has been offered anything which may have come from the break-in.” Phone police on 01228 528191."
