ROSEVILLE -- Employees of a homeless services agency are planning their next move after someone broke into their facility and stole thousands of dollars' worth of office equipment.
Someone over the weekend broke into a window at Solid Ground, an organization that provides food and other services to homeless families, and
stole four computers, two printers, an Internet router, a fax machine and a copy machine.
"They pretty much cleaned us out," Solid Ground director Dee McCardle said. "We don't know what we're going to do -- everyone is still in shock, to be honest."
The thief, or thieves, broke into the facility on 11 Mile Road either Saturday or early Sunday morning, Roseville Deputy Chief Anthony Cona said.
"Our detectives are looking into it, but at this point we have no suspects," Cona said.
McCardle said someone called her Sunday to tell her a window was broken at the facility. "I came over to have a look, and I saw that everything was stolen," she said.
The stolen computers contained records and forms that are difficult to replace, McCardle said.
"I had two families come in this morning," McCardle said. "We gave them groceries, but we don't have a way to print out the forms we need filled out. And we can't enter any information into the computer."
Solid Ground is renovating its 11,000-square-foot facility, the former American Red Cross building at 17955 11 Mile. When it's completed, the agency will be able to house families for several months, "until they can get back on their feet," McCardle said.
McCardle said she is still trying to figure out what to do in the wake of the break-in -- but she already knows one thing she will do in the future.
"We definitely need better security," she said.
Anyone who has information about the robbery is asked to call Roseville Police at (586) 775-2100.
