Stolen laptop is returned to ISU professor

Terre Haute, Ind. - Indiana State University officials say a computer stolen from a professor has been returned and none of its personal student information was accessed.

School spokesman Dave Taylor said Tuesday the laptop computer was mailed anonymously to the professor, who received it Friday, six days after it was stolen along with other personal items.

At the time of the theft, the professor was traveling in southern Indiana with his family. The laptop contained personal information on more than 2,500 current and former Indiana State students, including names, grades, e-mail addresses and some Social Security numbers. But Taylor said an analysis of the password-protected computer showed that none of its data had been accessed. Nonetheless, he said ISU is continuing to notify the students' whose personal information was on the laptop about the theft.
