Laptops stolen in break-in

By MATT MANNING • Staff writer • December 12, 2008

FREMONT -- Waytec Computers is the latest site in a series of robberies that has struck the city in the past few weeks.

According to Fremont police reports,
officers responded to a motion alarm call at 2:56 a.m.

When police arrived, there were no vehicles leaving the parking lot and no one was seen on foot in the area.

The front door had been broken out, but no one was found on the inside.

Waytec Owner Wayne Heishman arrived a short time later and found several laptops and DVD players were stolen.

"It was a snatch and grab," he said Thursday, the day after the robbery. "They stole all our laptops and stuff (in plain view)."

Heishman said Waytec Computers has been victim to vandalism and robbery before, "but this is the largest amount."

He said he is gathering up the cost of the stolen property and the damages from the breaking and entering.

As the number of robberies are on the rise in the city, Heishman urges other business owners to have a good security system set up at the location, and a great insurance plan.

"It's an awakening experience," he added.

The night before, Croghan Carryout was robbed by a lone gunman around 8 p.m. who made out with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Advance America Cash Advance was robbed at gunpoint Nov. 25 when two white males came into the business and held the attendant at gunpoint. They left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No arrests have been made in either case.

If you have information, call the Fremont Police Department at 419-332-6464.
