Secretary held for computer theft

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Khayelitsha for allegedly stealing computer parts from a school, Western Cape police said on Friday.

Captain Anneke van der Vyver said the man worked as a secretary at the Isikelokelo Primary School in Site C.

The school principal noticed in April that the school’s computers had slowed down, investigated and found that equipment was missing.

When an employee failed to report for work after the principal’s discovery, the school opened a theft case against him.

Police arrested the man at his house in Khayelitsha on Thursday, said Van der Vyver.

They found a black rubbish bin in the house containing several computer parts and two complete computers. Some of the parts were found to have been stolen in Namibia, she said.

He appeared to have stolen computer parts and replaced them with older, slower parts. – Sapa
