A BANYULE school has been broken into three times in less than a week as thieves continue to steal thousands of dollars worth of computer equipment.
Greensborough’s Apollo Parkways Primary School has had 15 desktop and laptop computers stolen in three separate hits this month.
Principal Lindsay Reeves said thefts came despite increased security after more than 30 computers were stolen last year.
“It is very unsettling for the kids and they feel violated,” Mr Reeves said.
“We are very disappointed; in the end they are stealing from little kids.”
The school had eight laptops and five desktops stolen about 3.25am on March 13, three desktops taken overnight on March 15-16 and two laptops pinched about 11.25am on March 18.
It was also one of seven Banyule and neighbouring Nillumbik schools targeted by thieves during a two-month period last year when more than 100 computers were stolen.
During that period, Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School had two laptops stolen, Rosanna Golflinks Primary School lost three iMacs and 18 Acer laptops and Watsonia Heights had 20 Apple laptops stolen.
Banyule crime scene services Sgt Adam Vohmann said the thefts had “died off” but looked to be on the rise again.
Banyule detective Sen-Constable Victor Scherini said police were investigating the incidents.
He asked people to report any suspicious activity outside schools, including descriptions of cars parked outside schools at night, to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
