Case Western puts 600 alumni on alert after laptops with Social Security numbers were stolen
CLEVELAND — Case Western Reserve University officials have told 600 alumni that a thief could have their Social Security numbers after two laptop computers were stolen two months ago.
A school official says the university discovered the thefts in late February, and notified those affected on April 4.
Chris Sheridan, a vice president at the school, said the delay was because the university needed time to determine what was on the laptops. Sheridan says the university is paying for the alumni's identity protection insurance.
The laptops haven't been recovered.
